Eco Club

Eco Club – DHARA

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.

At every step care should be taken to protect our mother Earth by conserving the precious natural resources

As a school, we have a special responsibility to educate the children and the community around about the dangers of ecological imbalance and spread information on how we can protect and conserve our environment.

The school for this noble motive of environmental conservation launched an Eco Club and was aptly named DHARA meaning Mother Earth.

Our conservation work concentrates on the following areas:
Water Conservation – The design of the school incorporates water recycling system and the use of treated water for watering the lawns and plants.
Recycling of Materials – we segregate our waste and recycle our paper.

Objectives of the Eco Club DHARA are

  • To create awareness of biodiversity conservation and local environmental issues among schoolchildren.
  • To create a ‘clean and green consciousness’ among students through various innovative methods.
  • To involve Eco Club students in open-orientation programmes in schools and public areas.

Competitions for Eco Club Members

Several environmental awareness activities are organised for students such as essays writing competition, quizzes, drawings competition, etc. Besides these competitions outdoor field programs are also constructed to boost their environmental involvement and awareness. onto the streets to help spread awareness to the public.

To involve community a mass student procession was organized in 2011. The procession was split into groups: one group distributed handbills to the public saying “No plastic carrier-bags”, another group picked up carry bags from the street and the rest walked in the procession, with banners against using plastic carrier-bags. The procession and the efforts of the Eco Club students achieved its aim to make every person aware of environmental issues.

Conclusions

Any successful project requires determination, dedication, commitment and an active role-model. We have also recognised the need to create a strong, consensual network between all members of DHARA.
